About This Project
Since 2019, members of over a dozen IRAP student chapters around the United States have engaged in projects to learn about their local immigration courts.
In the 2020-2021 school year, students partnered with committee members from the American Immigration Lawyers Association to track the immigration courts’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students charted closures and changing court policies dating from March 2020 and archived hundreds of captures of the government’s Operational Status Map through the Wayback Machine (a tool of the non-profit digital library the Internet Archive). Their hope was that this work might be helpful in the future to non- U.S. citizens and their advocates when dealing with the fallout of pandemic-related court disruptions.
This site compiles and organizes the information students collected about immigration court operations from March 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021. Though we endeavored to completely and accurately record court announcements during the relevant period, we encourage visitors to refer back to the original sources, including EOIR’s Facebook page, and EOIR’s Twitter account @DOJ_EOIR, and archived copies of the relevant iterations of EOIR’s Operational Status Map on the Wayback Machine (see here and here).
